Imperfecto Vs Indefinido

"El anuncio decía que" shouldn't we use "Indefinido" here, as the action we're talking about was done yesterday. We are not describing here?

The imperfect is used here in "el anuncio decía.." because this is seen more as a descriptive situation (as in the ad "was saying..."), background information.
