Imperfect with "antes de"

Imperfect with "antes de"

This seems like a completed action, or at least a completed period of time:

Él no veía nada antes de la operación.

Why do we use the imperfect here?

Thanks.

Hola Marcos

here:

Él no veía nada antes de la operación.

the imperfect is used because him not being able to see is an ongoing action, as opposed to something that happened within a limited time with an end.

Saludos
