Why can't we use 'hecho en casa' for homemade instead of casero/a?

For "homemade" we have a specific adjective that we always use wich is "casero/-a". Hecho en casa is literally "made at home", but we don't use it in this context, the same way it'd sound a bit weird to say in English "made at home marmalade"; in English the common way to say this is using the adjective "homemade".
I hope this clarified it.
