A couple of questions:
1. How to tell when to use an article
in cases like this:
vamos a ir a la Sierra de Atapuerca.
You Mañana vamos a ir a Sierra
2. Why “there” does not translate to “allá”
and many people travel there
muchas personas viajan a este lugar
You y muchas personas viajan

Sorry about the delay.
when we mention places like mountains, beaches, ... we tend to use the article, for example:
"Hicimos una excursión por la Sierra de las Nieves de Málaga."
"Mi playa favorita de Hueva es la Playa de Punta Umbría."
2. allá would also be correct (although "allí" is more commonly used in Spain). But in the hint for this snippet we asked to write literally "and many people travel to this place". This is why we haven't considered allá as a correct answer.
I hope this helped.
