Using ser (not estar) with the preposition para, to indicate a purpose

In Spanish we use the verb ser followed by the preposition para to indicate a purpose. Have a look and listen to these examples:

Este aparato es para medir la velocidad.This gadget is for measuring speed.

El microondas es para recalentar comida.The microwave is for reheating food.

Las sillas son para sentarse.The chairs are for sitting on.

Para is also used with other verbs to indicate a purpose.
