In the Olympic Games, both the mental and physical aspects are essential to success. Athletes must face enormous pressures, not only from their competitors, but also from the expectations of their countries and, of course, from themselves. Such mental pressures can be properly managed with well-known techniques such as meditation, the continued practice of which demonstrates significant improvement in concentration and a notable reduction in stress; visualization, which helps athletes imagine each step of their performance; and setting clear goals, which allows athletes to maintain focus, motivation and determination in the face of adversity. In short, solid mental preparation can be the difference between winning a medal or remaining in the lower positions, therefore mental strength is an important tool to excel in these competitions.
