María Teresa Ruiz is a Chilean astronomer who discovered, among several cosmic objects, the first brown dwarf ever seen and a supernova. Therefore, in 1997 she received the National Prize for Exact Sciences of Chile. During her career she wrote quite a few books and she is a member of several international organizations. She currently teaches some doctorates at the university with other professional colleagues. She believes that today there are many people interested in science and female participation is growing.
