Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was a navigator, discoverer of the Pacific Ocean. He was born in 1475 in Jerez de los Caballeros, Spain, and in 1501 he sailed towards the New World to search for treasures and riches. The expedition departed from Cadiz and reached the Colombian Atlantic coast to later travel along the Panamanian coast to an unknown point, the South Sea. Afterwards, he was governor of several South American cities until his death in 1519 in Acla, Panama.
