La palabra curiosa

“Florecer”

blooming

Do you know what florecer means?

Florecer means “to bloom / to flourish”. It comes from the word flor (flower). But in Spanish, we also use florecer in a figurative way. It can describe a person, a project or even a city when it grows, improves or becomes successful.

Las flores florecen en primavera.
Flowers bloom in spring.

Después de mucho esfuerzo, su negocio floreció.
After a lot of effort, his business flourished.

Talking about verbs that end in -cer, do you know that verbs with this ending have specific irregularities (often coinciding with their friends the -cir verbs) in some tenses? Well, if you’d like to revise this topic, here’s a shared notebook to just do that!
