Forming regular gerunds (-ing form)

In Spanish the gerund (the -ing verb form in English) is formed by taking the stem of the verb (e.g hablarhabl-) and adding one of these endings:

-ando (for -ar verbs)

-iendo (for -er/-ir verbs)

For example:

Speaking

Hablar → habl- = hablando

Eating

Comer → com- = comiendo

Living

Vivir → viv- = viviendo

Here are some more examples:

Cantar. Cantando.
To sing. Singing.

Bailar. Bailando.
To dance. Dancing.

Beber. Bebiendo.
To drink. Drinking.

Vender. Vendiendo.
To sell. Selling.

Conducir. Conduciendo.
To drive. Driving

Abrir. Abriendo.
To open. Opening.

This is the rule that applies to regular gerunds.
