We arrived home???

I don’t really understand why “we arrived home” has to be translated as “we were able to arrive home”. Is it wrong to just put “llegamos a casa”? These types of translations are where it is hard for me to become fully fluent. They seem to have no rhyme or reason or rule that I can apply. Thank you!

Hola de nuevo Samantha

As already explained in your previous questions, your translation is absolutely correct in meaning, and under normal circumstances, we would allow both versions.

However, when a hint is provided, we narrow the expected translation to match the structure or grammar point being tested. This ensures learners focus on a specific aspect of the language rather than offering multiple ways to say the same thing.

If there were no hint, then a freer translation approach would be acceptable. But since a hint is present, the answer needs to follow that specific guidance.

Un saludo

Silvia
