Take the fastest path to fluent Spanish
To express not yet in Spanish, you use the negative expression todavía no with El Pretérito Indefinido this way:
todavía no + verb conjugated in El Pretérito Indefinido
For example:
Nosotros todavía no salimos del trabajo.We haven't yet left work.
Ellos todavía no se casaron.They have not yet married.
However, note that you can also use it in the following order, and the meaning doesn't change:
no + verb conjugated in
El Pretérito Indefinido +
todavía
For example:
Nosotros no salimos del trabajo todavía.We haven't left work yet.
Ellos no se casaron todavía.They haven't married yet.
Here are other examples:
¿Todavía no recibiste tu dinero?Haven't you received your money yet?
¿No recibiste tu dinero todavía?Haven't you received your money yet?
María todavía no vio a su novio.Maria hasn't seen her boyfriend yet.
María no vio a su novio todavía.Maria hasn't seen her boyfriend yet.
Yo todavía no estudié para el examen.I haven't studied for the exam yet.
Yo no estudié todavía para el examen.I haven't studied for the exam yet.
The negative expression todavía no means not yet, but todavía used on its own has a different meaning = still or even: "Todavía estoy enferma." (I'm still poorly.)
