Spanish online reading and listening practice – level B2

Every year on December 8, Nicaragua celebrates the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary with La Gritería. On this day Nicaraguans construct altars to Mary which are visited by friends, families and neighbours. Children particularly enjoy shouting “¿Quién causa tanta alegría?” (who causes so much joy?) and receive small, usually edible gifts referred to as either “un brindis” or “una gorra”. This video shows how the Nicaraguan city of León celebrates this special feast day.

This reading and listening exercise can help you practise using seguir/continuar + present participle, decir vs contar, and the imperfect vs the preterite.
