Conjugate ser in El Imperativo (imperative)

The verb ser (to be) is irregular in El Imperativo:

yo

-

usted

sea

nosotros / nosotras 

seamos

vosotros / vosotras

sed

ustedes

sean

Note that in El Imperativo you never use the yo form. You don't give orders to yourself!

Remember that in Spanish there are four different ways to say you:

  •  = informal singular
  • vosotros/vosotras = informal plural
  • usted = formal singular
  • ustedes =  formal plural

Here are some examples to look at and listen to:

¡ buena!
Be good! ("you" singular informal)

¡Sea listo!
Be clever! ("you" singular formal)

¡Seamos inteligentes!
Let's be intelligent!

¡Sed prudentes!
Be careful! ("you" plural informal)

¡Sean simpáticos!
Be nice! ("you" plural formal)
