What is "el halda"? The only definition in my dictionary is skirt or sackcloth, and it is listed as feminine, not masculine.

I am finding the use of the verb Hay in tenses other Present Indicative confusing. Is it because the verb retains its multi purpose use of meaning? I mean, "hay" means both "there is" and "there are" in the Present Indicative, and "hubo" means "there was" and "there were", even though the following noun is plural? Also, after "si" when is "hubo" used in preference to "hubiera"?

That female voice is so beautiful that it's distracting! Be that as it may, what on earth is el halda, por favor? It doesn't come up in a search on the site and one dictionary says its "sackcloth" while another says it's a kilt or a skirt. As the aim was to teach the voice's son table manners, I'm confused. ¿el halda?
The phrase: Que uno ni debería empezar a comer. Does: Que no se debe empezar a comer have the same meaning or is there a more than subtle difference in the intent?
Hi,
Sometimes a word ending with a consonant takes the diminutive suffix 'illo' and other times it takes 'cillo'. Is there a rule for this or do we have to remember which is which?
Best regards,
Colin
