But in Mexico, it pops up in all kinds of surprising places &#8211; not just where the flowers grow.<br \/>\nLet\u2019s check out what <em>jard\u00edn<\/em> really means in everyday Mexican Spanish:<\/p>\n<h3>\ud83e\uddf8 Jard\u00edn de ni\u00f1os = Kindergarten (not an actual garden!)<\/h3>\n<p>One of the most common uses of <em>jard\u00edn<\/em> in Mexico is <strong><em>jard\u00edn de ni\u00f1os<\/em><\/strong>, the everyday and official way to say <strong>kindergarten<\/strong> or <strong>preschool<\/strong>. It&#8217;s a term everyone uses, from parents to government documents.<\/p>\n<p><em>Mi hija ya entr\u00f3 al jard\u00edn de ni\u00f1os, est\u00e1 feliz con su maestra.<\/em><br \/>\nMy daughter just started kindergarten \u2014 she loves her teacher.<\/p>\n<p>In formal contexts, you might also see <em>educaci\u00f3n preescolar<\/em>, but in daily conversation, it&#8217;s always <em>el jard\u00edn<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>\ud83c\udf3c Jardinera = Planted area or flowerbed<\/h3>\n<p>In cities and streets across Mexico, <strong><em>jardinera<\/em><\/strong> refers to <strong>any small planted area<\/strong> \u2014 like flowerbeds along sidewalks or at the center of roundabouts [US: traffic circles].
